Community Welfare

Service Is Not a Favour

The difference between charity and seva is who stands at the centre of it. Welfare that arrives with its own plan tends to leave when the plan is finished. Work that begins by asking a community what it needs, and then lets that community run it, is slower to start and far likelier to still be there in five years.

What This Work Involves

  • Health camps — screening, consultation and follow-up brought within reach of people for whom the nearest clinic is not.
  • Food and essential supplies — offered plainly, without ceremony, and without asking anyone to perform their need for it.
  • Wellbeing — nutrition, sanitation and preventive care, which cost the least and get funded last.
  • Community-led delivery — local people deciding what runs, and running it.
